There are 68 hours between a student’s free school lunch on Friday and free school breakfast on Monday. Many students are not fed or do not receive enough food at home. Our volunteers pack bags of food and deliver to the schools for distribution to anonymous students. Each bag contains food for the student and their siblings for weekend meals – 3 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts and snacks.
During the 2016/17 school year more than 30,000 meals were provided to students in 7 schools. PCPC is partnering with our friends at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church who began this program in 2014 and house the food pantry. Our goal is to help restock the pantry this summer. PCPC volunteers will pack and distribute food bags to needy students at Plant High School next school year. This is a true example of serving our neighbors.
A list of needed food is below and attached to grocery bags located in the Narthex and back of the gym. Please take a bag and help feed needy students. Deliver your donations to the church office. Thank you! For more information or to volunteer please contact Terri Kirkland at territkirkland@gmail.com or 813-784-4002. www.end68hoursofhunger.org
