Boy Scout Sunday: April 3rd

CONGRATULATIONS, BSA Troop 4, on your 100th Anniversary!

PCPC is the host and sponsoring church for Boy Scout Troop 4 here in Tampa. Boy Scout Troop 4 is one of the oldest continuing troops in the United States. In 2016, they are celebrating their 100th anniversary. This is significant because Boy Scouting began here in the United States in 1910. That means Troop 4 started only 6 years later! At this time, Troop 4 has over 100 boys as Scouts.

The chartering institution representative from PCPC is Joe Drawdy. Joe is the son-in-law of PCPC member Crowell Dawkins, whose leadership for so many years in Tampa Scouting is well known. Crowell was also active for many years in the leadership of Troop 4. In addition to the Boy Scout Troop, Troop 4 is accompanied by a Cub Scout Pack, Pack 4. Both groups meet at PCPC. The Boy Scouts meet in the facility at the north end of the church on Monday evenings.

On Sunday, April 3rd, we will be recognizing this significant 100th anniversary in all of our worship services. The scouts will be assisting in the leadership of the services, and will have some exhibits in the courtyard (tents, canoes, a campfire, and other elements of scouting.)

There are many alumni of Troop 4 in the Tampa area and across the nation. The Session relates to Troop 4 through its youth committee, which is staffed by Rev. David Bonnema. The Session hopes that you can join us for the anniversary recognition on Sunday, April 3, congratulating the Scouts and joining us in prayerfully encouraging them in their mission. On that day, April 3rd, we invite all Boy Scouts — and Girl Scouts — to wear their uniforms to church, even if they are not part of Troop 4.

The Boy Scout Law reminds us that a scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.
