The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told to them -Luke 2:20
Lord God, our Father, we praise you for the birth of your child Jesus and the joy that attends his coming into the world. He is indeed the fulfillment of our deepest longings. In him, we find new life and like Simeon of old we see a glimpse of the salvation you intend for the world.
We cherish him as deeply as those who first gazed upon his infant face. As we sense his Spirit in our hearts, we are aware that the life of this baby shall change our lives forever.
Jesus Bambino, infant child, we come to your manger this morning bringing all our hurts and fears. Like old Simeon, we long for a savior.
-Heal the hurts of our brokenness. Transform our hypocrisy into authenticity.
-Calm the fears that freeze our hearts with the warmth of your love.
-Grant that we might depart from this sanctuary stabilized by your peace.
As the star shone the way to you in the deep darkness of Bethlehem night, so shine your light this day in the deep darkness of our world-that the world might find its way once again to you. O fragile, human/divine, child in the year that stretches out before us:
- Deliver us from evil
- Spare the innocent
- Protect those who defend freedom
- Give wisdom to those who lead
- Grant us courage when hearts grow faint
We pray for those in special need of your care this day. Grant them a place at your manger. Heal their bodies, renew their souls with your holy love, and walk with them in times of difficulty.
We pray together as you will teach us to pray. Our father who art in heaven…..
