No matter where you are on the theological or political spectrum, it’s clear our world needs more compassion. Our summer Faith Formation class for children, An Illustrated Compassion, turns to scripture and looks for examples of God’s compassion throughout the Bible. It also asks what it might look like for all of us to lead more compassionate lives. We will walk participants through twelve stories (six from the Hebrew Scriptures and six from the New Testament) that all focus on the theme of compassion.
You might recognize Illustrated Children’s Ministry artwork from using the worship bags throughout the year. Each lesson will include an opening gathering activity (this usually involves movement), Illustrated Story Cards to retell the story together, a script version of the story you can use for acting the story out, discussion questions, a Compassion in Action opportunity to practically connect the story to your lives, coloring, and music!
This Compassion class will begin during Faith and Fellowship Hour (10-11am) on June 17 – Aug 12. It is designed for pre-K through 5th grade. Parents and grandparents are always welcome to join us. This class will be led by the team of Allison Kelly and Kelly McCord. Not only will all of the Summer On-The-Go Bags correspond to the lessons, you will soon be able to access all of the Family materials and music on our website so you can access it wherever you find yourselves this summer. We hope you will join us either “on the go” or in person on Sunday mornings this summer.
