Zoltan Varga playing sacred selections on the Casavant Freres Pipe Organ.

Zoltan Varga (1983), husband of Borbala Varga-Baboth and father of Pal Varga (2013) and Boldizsar Varga (2017), is a Hungarian-born church and concert organist, currently working as Organist and Music Director at St. John before the Latin Gate Roman Catholic Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

He graduated first from the University of Debrecen (Hungary) as an organist and chamber musician, where his professors were Hedvig Jakab and Szilard Kovacs. Then he continued his organ studies at the University of Gyor (Hungary) with Istvan Ruppert, where he acquired an MA degree in music.

Zoltan has attended workshops, masterclasses and private lessons on music theory and organ improvisation given by renowned organists in Hungary, Austria, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and also in the United States.

Besides his musical studies, he also acquired an MA degree in English Language and Literature at the Eotvos Lorand University of Sciences in Budapest (Hungary).

Zoltan started his ministry as a church organist at the age of 13 at Sacred Heart Jesuit Church in Budapest, where he served for eighteen years. Throughout these years he also became the organist and accompanist of the church’s 50-member Musica Sacra Choir – one of Hungary’s most renowned church choirs -, and he ministered as organist in the English-speaking Catholic Congregation of Budapest as well.

Zoltan has also gained some experience as a teacher at different levels: in summer of 2008, he taught piano and organ at the Hungarian Catholic Church Musician Training Program; between 2010 and 2013 he worked as a piano and organ instructor at Bela Bartok State Music School in Papa, Hungary, where he also taught music in English to children of NATO soldiers serving at Papa Air Base. Before moving to the United States from Hungary in May 2015, he worked as an organ lecturer at the Calvinist (Reformed) Academy of Theology in Papa for two years.

As a concert organist, Zoltan has presented recitals both as a soloist and a chamber musician in several churches and concert venues in the European Union. He has also performed as a soloist in some notable churches in the United States, including the catholic cathedrals of Los Angeles (CA), San Francisco (CA), Denver (CO) and Milwaukee (WI); St John Cantius Church in Chicago (IL), and Trinity Episcopal Church in Tulsa (OK).
