DISASTER ASSISTANCE
The list below will help you prepare to evacuate incase of a disaster.
- two-week supply of prescription medicines
- two-week supply of non-perishable/special dietary foods something children like too
- non-electric can opener
- drinking water / containers: 1 gal. per person, per day (of 3 – 7 days)
- flashlights and (seven sets) batteries for each family member
- portable radio and (seven sets) batteries
- mosquito repellent and citronella candles
- fire extinguisher (small canister, ABC type)
- first-aid book and kit, including bandages, antiseptic, tape, compresses, aspirin and non-aspirin pain reliever, anti-diarrhea medication, antacid, syrup of Ipecac (used to induce vomiting if advised by Posion Control)
- instant tire sealer
- whistle and/or distress flag
- two coolers (one-food / one – to go and get ice)
- plastic tarp, screening, tools and nails, etc.
- plastic trash bags
- water purification kit (tablets, plain chlorine and iodine)
- infant necessities(sterile water, diapers, ready formula, bottles)
- toys for children
- clean up supplies (mop, buckets, towels, disinfectant)
- camera and film to take pictures for insurance before/after
- garbage can or bucket with tight fitting lid (for temp. toilet)
- toilet paper, paper towels, pre-moistened towelettes If you evacuate, also take
- pillows, blankets, sleeping bags and/or air mattress
- extra clothing, eye glasses, etc.
- closed toes shoes
- folding chairs, lawn chairs and/or cots
- personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant)
- quiet games, books, cards and favorite toys for children
- important papers (driver’s license, medical info., passport, insurance policies and property inventories & pictures) Precious commodities before and after a storm
- case (with no power, banks and ATM machines may not work and check and credit cards may not be accepted.)
- charcoal, wooden matches, grill
- ice
- take 2 weeks supply of medication (pharmacies aren’t open)
